Speaking to Dantri/Dtinews, the airport director, Vu Pham Nguyen An, shared that the Transport Ministry is completing procedures so that the Dalat-based airport can join the international airport network on June 13.
"Lien Khuong Airport has received international charter flights since 2017 but getting licenses for those charter flights often required time-taking and complicated procedures," A said. "If there are no charter flights, visitors to the resort city of Dalat will have to fly to HCM City or Cam Ranh and then travel by road. But it will become much easier now after Lien Khuong being recognised as an international airport."
A believed that the airport upgrade to an international level will bring more foreign visitors to Lam Dong.
Under a master plan to develop the airport during 2021-2030 with a vision to 2050 recently approved by the Ministry of Transport, Lien Khuong Airport will upgrade Terminal 2 to serve three million international passengers annually while Terminal 1 will retain its current capacity of two million domestic passengers per year.
The airport will be able to host Airbus A320, A321 and A350 and Boeing B747 and B787 aircraft. Its capacity will continue to be increased to serve 7 million passengers by 2050.
It will be capable of handling 20,000 tonnes of cargo and 30,000 tonnes by 2030 and 2050, respectively.
