Thai Binh Provincial Police Department announced on Tuesday afternoon that Nguyen Thi Huong, 39, had killed her 86-year-old father, Nguyen Truong Xuan, and then took her five-year-old son, Hoang Manh Hung, to jump into a nearby river.
The father was found dead with multiple injuries on his neck, chest, stomach, and arms while lying on his bed on Tuesday morning. He was stabbed to death with a knife.
While investigating the case, police found Nguyen Thi Huong and her son drowned in a river near their house at 12 pm the same day.
Initial investigations showed that Huong killed her father due to conflicts and then drowned her son and herself in the river.
The family said that Huong had threatened to kill her father and mother with a knife several times earlier.
Thai Binh Police are further investigating the case.
