The scene of the accident

Chairman of Hiep Luc Commune People's Committee Long Minh Giam told Dantri/Dtinews that the tragic accident occurred at the house of Long Son Ha at about 1 am on May 22 when his family were sleeping.

"There were eight people sleeping inside the house at that time," Giam said. "A huge amount of soil and rocks from a nearby hill which was some 20 metres tall suddenly fell onto the house, breaking the walls of a bedroom where a Ha's daughter Long Thi Suong Mai, 27, her 28-year-old husband Huynh Thanh Hau and their two-year-old son Huynh Long Binh An were sleeping inside."

Ha, his wife and three other children, who were safe in other rooms, called for a rescue team who arrived shortly afterwards to help them find their buried members. However, the three were all dead when being found at 9.45 am.

Giam said that there were heavy rains in the area before the incident occurred.

Local authorities are further investigating the accident.
