According to the Southern Airports Authority, the Chinese passenger, 41, smoked in the toilet at around 7 pm on Tuesday, triggering the smoke alarm system.

Under current regulations, smoking is banned on all domestic flights in Vietnam, including electronic cigarettes. This is consistently mentioned by flight attendants throughout the flight, especially during takeoff and landing.

On April 6, a foreigner was also fined VND750,000 for smoking in the prohibited area at Ca Mau Airport.
