The southern province of Kien Giang’s authorities have proposed VND7.92 trillion (USD323.26 million) to build two coastal roads in Phu Quoc Island.

The southern province of Kien Giang’s authorities have proposed VND7.92 trillion (USD323.26 million) to build two coastal roads in Phu Quoc Island.

Under the proposal sent to the Government Office, VND7 trillion is for a VND26.6-kilometre coastal road linked to local tourist sites.

Meanwhile, VND920 billion is for an 184-kilometre belt road running along local protective and specialised forests. The project serves as a natural barrier between the forests and residential areas, helping to prevent forest fires and protect the environment more effectively.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh previously approved the General Planning Project of Phu Quoc City until 2040. Phu Quoc Island aims to be an attractive urban, tourism, health and trade and service centre with integrated sea-island ecology.

Phu Quoc focuses on developing technical infrastructure of transportation, ground elevation and rainwater drainage, water supply, energy supply, waste treatment, and telecommunications.
