The provincial people’s committee has assigned the local Steering Committee for Natural Disasters Prevention and Search and Rescue, the Border Guard Command and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to cooperate with relevant units to salvage the ship named King Rich.
The ship has been stranded near Cham Island since December, 2023.
The work must be carried out in an environmentally-friendly way.
In December last year, the ship was found stranded south of Cham Island.
According to the Cham Island Border Guard Station’s verification, the vessel has the flag of Sierra Leone and is measured at 132 metres in length, 21 metres in width. It is designed for carrying liquid cargo and has capacity of 13,920 tonnes.
