
Authorities in the southern central province of Khanh Hoa held an inauguration ceremony on March 13.
The USD2.58-billion project, the largest FDI project in Khanh Hoa, is invested by Japan-based Sumitomo Corporation. Construction of the project started in 2019 under the Build-Operate-Transfer (BOT) contract and it will be transferred to the state-owned Vietnam Electricity Group after 25 years of operation.
The plant will generate some 8.50 billion kWh every year, which accounts for three percent of the country's total electricity output.

Speaking at the ceremony, chairman of Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Committee, Nguyen Tan Tuan, said that the plant will be a driving force in the province's socioeconomic development and in the Van Phong Economic Zone. It is expected to contribute some VND1 trillion to the province's budget every year.
