The HCM City Department of Transport has proposed launching a ferry service linking HCM City and the southern province of Tien Giang by the third quarter of this year.

Under the recommendation sent to the HCM City People’s Committee, the 12-kilometre ferry route would connect Can Gio District’s Long Hoa Commune in HCM City and Vam Lang Town in Tien Giang's Go Cong Dong District.

There will be at least two ferries on the route, with each capable of carrying 100 passengers or more, 50 motorbikes and 10 cars with four to 29 seats.

The service will be operated from 6 am to 6 pm every day. Each ferry trip will last around 30 minutes.

Once in service, the HCM City-Tien Giang ferry route would help reduce the distance between HCM City and Tien Giang by 40km and save travel time by 40-50 minutes.
