The move aims to ease traffic congestion at the country's two largest airports during the current peak Tet Lunar New Year Holiday travel time.

According to deputy director of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam, Tran Anh Vu, car owners with valid ETC accounts used for expressways will be able to use them at the airports without having to go through any more procedures.

With the ETC system adopted, the fee will remain VND10,000-25,000 for every 10 minutes, depending on the car size.

Vietnam's two largest airports receive 16,000-20,000 cars every day, and manual toll collection has caused severe traffic congestion during such a peak travel period as Tet.

Nearly five million cars in Vietnam, equal to 96 percent of all legally-registered cars in the nation, have ETC accounts so far.
