Fields in the districts of Nghi Loc, Yen Thanh and Quynh Luu in Nghe An show farmers who wear torches plating rice at night.

Rice farmer Dang Thi Dong, 45, in Yen Thanh District, said that she has 20 years of experience. According to Dong, people often set up teams for the work. People either work for a wage, which is often lower than the piece-rate alternative.

Dong's group has eight members who usually take on piece-rate cultivation jobs in different districts. In many cases, they choose to work from early morning until 10 pm. Each of them receives a daily income of VND700,000.

At this time of the year, Nghe An is witnessing the bone-chilling cold weather.

“Working from 5 am until night, we are all very tired but must try to keep a good pace so that we can get more jobs to earn money for the Tet Lunar New Year. This period of work lasts for several weeks,” Dong added.
