By the 2025 period, the city has set a target to increase an additional 150 hectares of public parks, equivalent to the city’s average per capita park area of 0.65 square metres. This figure is expected to rise to one metre by 2030, with Thu Thiem Square Park in Thu Duc City (20 hectares), Go Cat Park in Binh Tan District (13 hectares), Thanh Xuan Park in District 12 (150 hectares) and a 128-hectare ecological park in Thu Duc City and a 3.8-hectare in Binh Thanh District.
The city authorities have instructed concerned agencies to review the use of land planned for public parks.
Most public parks are located in the inner city. There are no public parks in the suburban districts of 9, 12, Thu Duc, Binh Tan, Nha Be, Hoc Mon, Cu Chi and Binh Chanh, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
The amount of land in some public parks has even been reduced for the expansion of streets, such as Gia Định Park in Go Vap District and Tao Dan Park in District 1 or to use as parking lots such as Le Van Tam in District 1.
