The information was announced by Ha Thanh Son from the HCM City Transport Department at a Wednesday meeting.
According to the official, the boats will depart from Sai Gon-Hiep Phuoc Terminal Wharf in HCM City's Nha Be District. It will take from five to six hours to reach Con Dao, which is around 230 kilometres away.
Tran Song Hai, Director of Greenlines DP, the service operator, said that they were working on the final preparations for the service launch and will announce the fares and detailed schedules soon.
"We'll also arrange boats to transport passengers between Bach Dang and Sai Gon-Hiep Phuoc wharves," Hai said.
The city Department of Transport said the high-speed boats would help meet growing travel demand, as Con Dao International Airport is going to close for upgrades in the coming time.
Currently travel between HCM City and Con Dao Island is only possible by air. The island is a popular tourist destination with its beautiful beaches and famous historical sites.
