According to the department, the route will be launched later this year. The route will be operated by the national flag carrier Vietnam Airlines carrying some 185 passengers per flight.

Covering 30,000 square metres, Vinh International Airport currently serves nine domestic air routes and an international route connecting to Taiwan.
Local authorities previously had to suspend the international routes connecting Vinh and Thailand's Bangkok and Lao's Vientiane in 2020 due to lack of demand.
The airport served 2.50 million passengers in 2023, a fall of 5 percent on year.
