A poor woman in the central province of Ha Tinh is seeking help for her three-year-old daughter who is struggling with sarcoma, a rare kind of cancer.
In 2020, Nguyen Thi Thuan, 32, from Huong Son District’s Son Le Commune divorced and came to live with her mother, Le Thi Hong. At that time, Thuan was pregnant and gave birth to her daughter Nguyen Thi Tra Giang who is now three years old.

Thuan is often sick and sometimes faces mental problems.
In March last year, Giang suffered from high fevers and was taken to a local hospital where she was diagnosed with Sarcoma. This is a rare cancer that develops in the bones and soft tissues.
After that, the little girl was moved to K Hospital in Hanoi for one month of treatment. In April, she was brought to Hue Central Hospital in the central province of Thua Thien-Hue for chemotherapy.
Despite having insurance for children below six, it is quite costly for the family to cover some medicine costs. To date, Thuan has borrowed more than VND100 million (USD4,132) for her daughter’s treatment.
Hong had to sell two cows, her family’s most valuable assets, to support Giang’s treatment.
Le Dinh Khoi, vice chairman of Son Le Commune, said that Thuan’s family is in great difficulty. Thuan’s daughter is often hospitalised for cancer treatment. The commune has called for residents to assist but this was modest.
