Pham Xuan Thuong, 83, has been struggling with prostate cancer for many years. Despite weak health, Thuong has had to take care of his wife who has been bed-ridden over the past 10 years.
"My wife has suffered from depression following the death of our smallest child due to cancer 18 years ago," the man said. "She fell off a cliff while wandering around trying to find our dead son. And she has been bed-ridden since that accident."

The couple has three other children, but they are all live far from them and facing economic difficulties. They're living in an old house that may collapse at any time in Bac Kan City.

"My children are also poor and they can’t help much," the man said with a sigh. "We've incurred a debt of over VND200 million when seeking treatment for my youngest son and ourselves. Meanwhile, my health has recently deteriorated as I've been unable to follow hospital treatment properly".
After their story was shared on Dantri/Dtinews Newspaper, the couple have received support from many kind donors. Dantri has transferred nearly VND160 million in donations from readers to them.
Receiving the support, Thuong expressed his sincere thanks.

"Thanks to great help from many kind donors, local authorities and neighbours, we're having a new house which can better protect us from stormy weather," he said.
