After six months of construction, the 5.80 - hectare VND19 billion park with a large lake and many green trees has replaced the polluted dump site which has tortured local people for many years.

The opening ceremony saw the attendance of former secretary of HCM City Party Committee, Nguyen Thien Nhan, Secretary of Binh Tan District Party Committee, Huynh Khac Diep, and other local officials.

Binh Thanh Street, which used to be polluted by a large number of rubbish trucks, has now been repaired with new pavement, more trees and lights.

A local resident, Nguyen Huu Du, said that he and other local people were very happy when the polluted dump was relocated and replaced by this park. "We can now open the doors to get fresh air and go out to play at the park," he said. "We're feeling much better."
