According to the department, although the national basic speed standard regulates that maximum speed limits should not be less than 40 km/h and more than 120 km/h, vehicles running around some areas in the city centre such as school sites should have smaller speed to ensure better safety.

A total of 779 traffic accidents occurred in HCMC in the first six months of 2023, killing 294 people and injuring 470 others, according to the HCM City police.

Compared to the same period last year, the city saw a decrease of 36 fatalities and 198 injuries. Notably, the number of traffic accidents also edged down 10% year-on-year to 260 cases, with severe accidents dropping by 40%.
