The figure fell 54.66 percent compared to the same period last year.

The disease has spread to 24 communes in the neighbouring Bac Kan Province. Around 450 pigs weighting over 15 tonnes in Bac Kan have been destroyed.

Bac Kan is now home to dozens of pig farms with a total of around 190,000 pigs.

The Bac Kan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development has urged localities to take measures to eradicate outbreaks to prevent the further spread. The department has also set up rapid response teams to help the disease prevention and control.

Several other provinces, including Dong Nai and Nghe An, have also faced African swine fever.
