The work has started on pavements on many districts, including Cau Giay, Dong Da and Hai Ba Trung, since late October.

A 500-metre section of pavement on Tran Thai Tong Street in Cau Giay District is being paved with bricks, instead of stone.

Part of the pavement on Giang Vo Street in Dong Da District is being repaired. However, electric poles, substations and telecommunication cables have not yet been put underground.

The Hanoi Department of Construction is co-operating with concerned agencies to assess the situation to arrange the schedule for repairs.

Many pavements in Hanoi have deteriorated despite being paved with stone. In 2017, many local pavements were upgraded with stone which was claimed to have a life of 50-70 years. However, the stone paving has quickly deteriorated. Parking activities have also been blamed for the quick deterioration of the pavements in Hanoi.
