A M117 bomb weighing 340 kilos is found in a rice field in the central Quang Tri Province on October 26.

Personnel of the PeaceTrees Vietnam organisation announced on Thursday afternoon that they had co-operated with Quang Tri authorities to safely remove the bomb which was found the same morning in a rice field in Tan Lap Commune, Huong Hoa District.

The bomb from the American War is 2.06 metres long and weighs 340 kilos. It contains up to 170 kilos of explosives.

Last October, PeaceTrees Vietnam organisation, which addresses the legacy of war by removing dangerous explosives, also found and safely removed two bombs of the same kind in a rubber tree garden in Cam Lo District.

Two other MK118 bombs were also found and successfully detonated recently in the area.

Quang Tri Province was a major battleground during the American War between 1968-1972. Around 391,000 hectares of land, accounting for 83.3 percent of the province’s total area, remains infested by mines and other explosives from the war.
