Lao-Vietnam rail feasibility study agreed

The Ministry of Transport has agreed to a Lao-Vietnamese consortium to conduct a feasibility study of a railway project.

The Ministry of Transport has agreed to a Lao-Vietnamese consortium to conduct a feasibility study of a railway project.

Under the ministry’s approval, the Deo Ca Group Joint Stock Company and Laos’ Petroleum Trading Lao (Petro Trade) Public Company will do a joint feasibility study of a Vung Ang-Tan Lap-Mu Gia rail route linking the central provinces of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh.

The 103-kilometre-long line would be implemented under a public-private partnership and cost around VND27.48 trillion (USD1.11 billion), the Vietnam News Agency reported.

According to the Ministry of Transport, the consortium would repay all the research into the project and accept all financial liabilities if the feasibility study was not approved.

The project is part of a 554.7-kilometre railway route linking Vung Ang Port in Ha Tinh to Vientiane, the Lao capital. The route was approved by the Vietnamese prime minister and could be implemented before 2030.
