Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee Tran Sy Thanh has demanded an investigation into the illegal construction of a 200-apartment building.

My Home Apartments located on Phu Huu Road in the outlying district of Thach That, has nine floors with a total of 200 apartments. Each apartment covers an area of 25-55 square metres and has been offered for rent at VND2.9-5.5 million per month, starting from November.

The apartment block was licensed with three floors and an attic. The total floor area is around 492 square metres.

However, Nguyen Minh Cong, the apartment block investor, added six floors illegally without seeking permission from management agencies.

On June 26, Thach Thach District’s authorities issued a decision to revoke the licence of the apartment and requested the investor to dismantle the illegally-built floors. However, the decision does not clearly stipulate the deadline for the dismantlement.

Hanoi People’s Committee Chairman Tran Sy Thanh has ordered an investigation and any violations will be strictly dealt with.

The Hanoi Department of Construction has also been asked to co-operate with Thach That District to check all local apartment blocks and report to the municipal people’s committee before October 30.
