The prime minister has approved a VND4-trillion (USD163.85 million) investment for the Mekong Delta region to help deal with river and coastal erosion.
Under the prime minister’s decision, Kien Giang, Ca Mau and Vinh Long provinces will be given VND500 billion each, followed by Bac Lieu, Ben Tre and Soc Trang with VND300 billion each; Can Tho, An Giang, Dong Thap and Long An with VND250 billion each and Tra Vinh and Hau Giang with VND200 billion each.
The investment will be sourced from the central budget reserves for 2023.
The Mekong Delta region anti-erosion project needs to be completed by December 31 next year.
The Ministry of Planning and Investment has been instructed to co-operate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Ministry of Finance and concerned agencies to set up an interdisciplinary working group to periodically inspect the use of the central budget reserves for the Mekong Delta’s anti-erosion project.
