A landslide occurred on National Highway 8A linking Son Kim 1 Commune to Cau Treo International Border Gate in Huong Son District on September 26.

The landslide has affected traffic on some sections of the road in the direction from Cau Treo International Border Gate to Laos. Local authorities had to use machinery clear the road.

Currently, around 10 spots on the roads are suffering from landslides.

On some sections of the road, vehicles can only travel on one lane, resulting in traffic congestion and posing safety risks.

Driver Le Thanh Phuong, 46, from Ha Tinh said that National Highway 8A has deteriorated and faced more landslides over recent years.
Apart from upgrading the quality of the road surface, guardrails, and signage, steel mesh and stone revetment are also used to prevent landslides and erosion on the road.
National Highway 8A is over 85 kilometres long, linking National Highway 1A at Hong Linh Town and Laos.
The project to upgrade the road was started in 2014 with work valued at VND1.66 trillion (USD67.75 million).
