According to police in Dinh Quan District, the accident occurred on the National Road 20 at 2.30 am when a Thanh Buoi sleeper bus crashed into a 16-seater bus which was running in the opposite direction.

The crash left four people including the driver and three passengers on the 16-seater bus dead on the spot. Five other passengers on this bus were seriously injured and have been taken to hospital.

The two vehicles were heavily damaged.

A witness, Nguyen Huu Khanh, said that he was driving a motorbike on this road and suddenly heard a loud noise and screams ahead.

"I sped up to the area and saw the tragic accident," Khanh said. "The 16-seater bus was pushed onto the pavement and heavily damaged. The driver and a female passenger had fallen onto the road and died on the spot. Many other passengers were screaming for help. Me and some people managed to help them out and took them to hospital."

Police are investigating the cause of the accident.

National Road 20 runs nearly 280 km through Dong Nai and Lam Dong provinces. It is the main road connecting HCM City and Dalat and is usually crowded.
