Tran Nhat Son is detained for smuggling 22 iPhones into Vietnam.

Tran Nhat Son, 31, was detained by customs officers after landing at Tan Son Nhat Airport on September 22 with 22 iPhones 15s.

The man admitted that he had bought the phones valued at VND900 million in Singapore and intended to resell them in Vietnam.

On September 23, authorities in Danang International Airport also detained 20 iPhone 15 Pro Max which were illegally brought in by a Thai man arriving from Bangkok.

The phones with boxes and accessories hidden inside were found in his carry-on luggage. The phones are estimated to be worth VND700 million.

The Thai man failed to make a customs declaration for the phones and could not show the necessary paperwork to prove their origin.

Passengers arriving in Vietnam are allowed to freely carry a second mobile phone if it is for personal use. The second phone is still subject to customs duties if its value exceeds VND10 million.

Apple officially launched the iPhone 15 version on September 22, with earlier retail sales in the US, Singapore and Thailand. The phones will be officially available in Vietnam on September 29. However, many Vietnamese flocked to Singapore and Thailand last week and queued for hours to buy the new iPhones.
