The Ho Chi Minh City Centre of Disease Control (HCDC) announced on Monday evening that a 25-year-old man tested positive for monkeypox.

The man, who comes from the neighbouring Dong Nai Province fell ill with symptoms including high fever, itching, and sweating on September 17 and was admitted to a local hospital for a checkup on September 22. He was tested for monkeypox and was since isolated for treatment and genetic sequencing.

HCDC tracked eight other people who came into direct contact with the patient. Among them, one man who had stayed with the patient in a hired apartment in HCM City also tested positive for monkeypox.

Vietnam reported the first two cases of monkeypox in October 2022. These patients returned from a tour to Dubai.
