The Economic Zone Management Board in the northern city of Haiphong has proposed setting up a 2,000-hectare economic zone.
The Haiphong Economic Zone Management Board on Tuesday held a seminar on the 30 years of developing local industrial parks and economic zones and orientations for establishing the South Haiphong Coastal Economic Zone.
Under the recommendation, the South Haiphong Coastal Economic Zone will be located in the districts of Do Son, Kien Thuy, An Lao, Tien Lang and Vinh Bao. This will be the second economic zone in the city.
According to Le Trung Kien, head of the Haiphong Economic Zone Management Board, the South Haiphong Coastal Economic Zone recommendation was followed by the adjustment of Haiphong General Planning by 2040. The economic zone will be linked to the Haiphong coastal road, Nam Do Son Port and the future Tien Lang Airport.
Dr Nguyen Dinh Cung, former head of the Central Institute for Economics Management, said the economic zone setup will help create a driving force for the economic development of Haiphong City.
Kien added that Haiphong is now home to 14 industrial parks covering a total area of 6,100 ha. The industrial parks have an estimated occupancy rate of 63.8 percent.
