In the proposal sent by the provincial people’s committee to the Commission for Management of State Capital at Enterprises, the VND1.50 trillion (USD 62.37 million) project is planned to be carried out in the 2023-2025 period with funds sourced from the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).
According to the chairman of Phu Yen Provincial People’s Committee, Ta Anh Tuan, they made the proposal as the number of passengers passing through the airport is on a steep rise following tourism recovering.
"The province received 2.20 million tourist arrivals in 2022 and is expected to welcome 2.7 million tourists this year, and more than four million in 2025," the official said. "Meanwhile, Tuy Hoa Airport has two runways, but one has been closed due to severe deterioration. Its current terminal covers more than 638 square metres with a capacity of 550,000 passengers a year. However, the airport handled over 620,000 passengers last year."
The committee also added that Tuy Hoa Airport in Phu Yen Province has planned to have a capacity of nearly three million passengers a year in 2030 following the national airport system development master plan approved by the prime minister for the 2021-30 period with a vision toward 2050.
Therefore, the committee suggested that the commission assign the ACV to arrange funds for the new terminal at Tuy Hoa Airport.
