According to the municipal people’s committee, some of the responsibilities of the Department of Health, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the Department of Industry and Trade will be transferred to the Department of Food Safety Management.

Specifically, the Department of Food Safety Management will oversee inspections, examinations and administrative violations related to food safety and issuing certificates for animal product quarantine.

Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety staff will be transferred from the Food Safety Management Board.

HCM City has intensified food safety inspections, surveillance and testing, but the city has still faced many violations in this area.

In 2021, HCM City conducted inspections of nearly 20,000 food production and trading establishments. After discovering many violations, administrative fines totalling tens of billions of dong were issued and 80 tonnes of products were destroyed, the Vietnam News Agency reported
