Deputy head of CAAV, Dinh Viet Son told local media on Thursday morning that they were waiting for reports from local airlines about the allegations which were broadcasted by the South Korean MBC on Wednesday.
The MBC reported that the Incheon Police Department had arrested two of four crew members of a Vietnamese airline for alleged drug smuggling.
The two flight attendants were suspected of hiding liquid marijuana worth KRW300 million (USD225,000) in 50 cosmetic containers, which they brought into Incheon International Airport in April.
According to initial investigations, the two airline staff admitted agreeing to help ship goods from Vietnam to South Korea for KRW68,000-150,000 (USD51-113) on each trip.
They said that they were not aware that there were cannabis substances inside the packages.
According to South Korean Donga, the two attendants are in their 20s and now facing charges of violating South Korea’s Narcotics Control Act.
Vietjet Air and Bamboo Airways have confirmed that the two arrested were not part of their crew while Vietnam Airlines said they were awaiting further verification.
The CAAV has previously issued a directive on strengthening measures against illegal trade among flight attendants.
In March, four Vietnam Airlines flight attendants were caught transporting 11.40 kilos of ketamine and cocaine from Paris to HCM City.
