Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, 25, has been bedridden for 14 months after a traffic accident that left her with various injuries. While on the way home from HCM City for the National Reunification Day Holiday on April 29, 2022, Ngan was run over by a truck, breaking her hip-bone and damaging many organs including her bladder, perineum, and intestines.
The woman had to undergo many costly surgeries during the first three months after the accident. She was then brought home in July as her family could no longer afford hospital fees. She's now being taken care of by her mother who has tried to do the work of a nurse at home.
"We hired a nurse who came to our house to take care of Ngan during the first days after leaving the hospital," the mother Thu Nguyet said. "But then I've tried to learn to do the work myself to save money."
Nguyet shares that now besides taking regular medicine, Ngan needs frequent physical therapy and massages. She also needs further surgery in the coming time.
However, they have been unable to find more money to continue the treatment.
"I can stay up all night to help her clean or give her physical therapy and massages," the mother said. "But she needs further treatment from hospitals while we've run out of money. I hope that we can receive some support from the community to save our daughter."
As the oldest of the three sisters, Ngan had just found a job after graduating from university before the accident occurred. She was hoping to help her parents support her two younger sisters and pay the debts borrowed to cover their education fees.
"I haven't been able to help my poor parents and now I'm even becoming a burden," Ngan said in tears. "Now I only wish that I can stand up and recover so that I can work to support my parents and small sisters."
Speaking with Dantri/Dtinews, head of Village 1 in Xuyen Moc District, Ba Ria-Vung Tau Province said that Ngan's family was facing a very difficult time. He hoped that Ngan would receive some support to continue her treatment.
