Van Bao Primary School in Ha Dong District announced the distribution of registration forms for first grade students for the 2023-2024 school year on June 13-18.
A man from Van Phuc Ward said that he and his wife came to the school at 8 pm on June 12, but dozens of people had been there for hours.
At 9 pm, the figure was around 200 people and all of them queued until 8 o’clock this morning, June 13, when the school was opened. At night, the weather was quite hot and then it was slightly rainy, but no one dared to leave the line.
When the school gates opened, many late-arriving parents pushed and jostled their way from behind despite the security. One man even had his T-shirt torn in the jostling.
Some parents said that they choose Van Bao Primary School because it is newly-built with good facilities and quality. It is also near their home.
Pham Thi Le Hang, head of Ha Dong District’s Department of Education and Training, said that parents should not be too stressed to apply for her school as there are many other choices for their children. Parents can choose other primary schools such as Doan Ket and Tran Dang Ninh.
A man said he thought that the school could have used an online application system and then held a test to select the best students for Grade 1. This would have meant parents would not have to wait through the night.
