A group of young people collect litter scattered along the coast of Tien Giang in the Mekong Delta.
Rubbish has been washing up along the beach of Tan Thanh in Go Cong District that has emerged as a popular tourist attraction in recent years.
On June 4, more than a hundred volunteers from Khat Vong Xanh (Green Aspiration) Group, Green Tien Giang Group and local residents joined hands to remove rubbish along the dykes of Tan Thanh beach that is filled up with piles of trash.
Volunteers collect solid garbage, styrofoam boxes, plastic bottles and animal carcasses under the scorching weather.
With the support from local residents, 19 tonnes of waste were collected after more than three hours to make the beach clean and beautiful again.
Before joining the cleanup campaign, volunteers were equipped with masks, gloves, and protective gear for those who waded into dirty waters.
Nguyen Thanh Son, deputy head of Green Aspiration Group and 10 members, drove more than 100 kilometres from HCM City to Tien Giang to participate in the cleanup campaign.
“We can't do it all, but we highlight the issue to raise people’s awareness about environmental protection. I hope these positive images will be spread widely so that people will be more responsible in protecting the environment," Son said.
After the pictures of the cleanup were posted on social media, the volunteers received many compliments praising their work.
