According to a report from local authorities, Ngo Nguyen Ngoc Huong, 13, and her two sisters aged nine and seven went to swim in the Ba Du River in Cao Lanh District at 1.30 pm on May 28.

After not seeing them return, their family went to the river to look for them. The family called for support from local rescue services who found the bodies of two sisters. The last body was recovered at 8.40 pm the same day.

Child drownings have risen in recent days as many schools nationwide have closed for the summer holiday. Three days ago, three sisters in Ninh Thuan Province also drowned while swimming in a lake behind their house. Four weeks earlier, four girls also drowned in the Quao River in Binh Thuan Province.
