The clip went viral on social networks on Tuesday, showing that the spot where the two young women were bathing was near Thuy Ta Ice Cream on Le Thai To Street, a crowded area. However local authorities claim one was found bathing in this area in the days the clip was attributed to. Staff of toilets and security guards of the lake who work nearby did not see anyone bathing in the area.

An official from Hoan Kiem District said that the clip was inaccurate. It might be a fabricated or manipulated image.
The area is roughly two metres deep with a lot of mud, but the water level in the clip is only up to the women’s chests, which made it seem unlikely to be real. Instead, the authorities believe the clip was digitally manipulated and intended to attract public attention on social networks.
