Speaking to local media on the morning of May 10, head of Do Luong District Department of Education and Training, Nguyen Tat Tay, confirmed that the incident occurred in the late afternoon of May 9 at Thuan Son Kindergarten.
"Initial investigations showed that many children had stomach aches, diarrhoea, and started vomiting after returning home from school late Monday afternoon," Tay said. "Seventy-six students had to be brought to local hospitals and healthcare centres for treatment with the same symptoms."
Head of Nghe An Provincial Department of Food Safety and Hygiene, Pham Ngoc Duy, said that they had worked with Thuan Son Kindergarten on the case.
"The school said 354 children were given lunch at 10.30 am with braised pork and quail eggs, stir-fried morning glory, and pumpkin and peanut soup. At 3 pm, 302 students were given yoghurt made by the school's cooks. We had taken samples of the foods and yoghurt for testing. It's likely that the yoghurt was the cause for the food poisoning among the students."
By Tuesday morning, most of the students had recovered."
Local authorities are further investigating the case.
