
According to an audited financial report from Hanoi Metro, the company made a total revenue of VND 483 billion, seven times higher than that of 2021. Revenues from ticket sales for the Cat Linh-Ha Dong metro line reached VND65.80 billion, up 12.50-fold. The Cat Linh-Ha Dong is the first urban metro line in the country and began commercial operations in November 2021.
By 2021, the company's accumulated losses since it began operations in 2015 were VND160 billion. High labour costs were a major factor in the company's losses.
As part of the public transport system, the line’s ticket pricing currently receives subsidies from the capital city’s budget.
Hanoi Metro targets total revenue of VND 519 billion in 2023, up 7 percent against 2022's figure. The line expects to serve over 10.60 million passengers this year.
The Cat Linh - Ha Dong metro line runs 13 kilometres, consisting of 12 elevated stations and nine trains.
While its maximum speed is 80km per hour, the trains run at 35km per hour during normal operation. The average waiting time for passengers is six minutes.
The urban railway project cost over VND18 trillion, which included funding from China and the local budget.
