Five Vietnamese athletes use doping at 31st SEA Games

The Vietnam Athletics Federation confirmed on the morning of May 5 that the five Vietnamese athletes are Quach Thi Lan, Khuat Phuong Anh, Vu Thi Ngoc Ha, Hoang Thi Ngoc, and Le Ngoc Phuc.

Each athlete won at least one medal at the tournament last year. Most notably, Quach Thi Lan, 28, won two gold medals, one silver and one bronze medal, Khuat Phuong Anh, 26, who won a gold medal and a silver medal, Vu Thi Ngoc Ha, 23, who won a gold and a silver, Hoang Thi Ngoc who won a gold, whilst Le Ngoc Phuc won two silvers.

The titles of the athletes at SEA Games 31 will be revoked and given to the runner-up in accordance with the regulations. In addition, they will also receive punishments from the World Athletics Federation.

Tran Duc Phan, deputy head of the Vietnam Sports Administration and head of the Vietnamese delegation at SEA Games 31 said that the Asian Athletics Federation and the Vietnam Athletics Federation would discuss the punishment for the five players.

As a result of these punishments the achievements recorded by the Vietnamese sporting delegation at SEA Games 31 will be reduced to 203 gold medals from the previous figure of 205.
