The SE1 train service which was running from Hanoi to HCM City, suddenly saw its seventh carriage fall off the tracks after leaving Hue Station after about 100 metres. Luckily no passengers were hurt.
The accident occurred at a rail crossing, causing traffic congestion on Dien Bien Phu Street.
Passengers were brought back to Hue Station to wait while authorities dealt with the accident.
Many other trains on the north-south route have been affected by the incident.
A crane has been sent to the site for recovery work.
Local authorities are investigating the cause of the accident.
