Sitting ignored at the port for months, the fishing boats have deteriorated, causing severe pollution.

Ngo Thi Thoa, who lives in Pho Thanh Ward in Duc Pho Town, said that these boats obstruct other boats from entering the port and finding a place to anchor during the rainy season.

This and seafood processing facilities nearby have worsened the contamination at the port.

Vo Minh Vuong, vice chairman of Duc Pho Town, said that local authorities have asked Sa Huynh Port’s management port to tighten control over wastewater discharge. He added that the authorities have failed to determine who are the owners  of some of the fishing boats left at the port.

The town people’s committee has requested owners to remove the abandoned vessels. If this is failed to be done, the local authorities will have to be forced to do this.
