The move followed an article about Dinh Vu Thang and Mai Thi Kim Oanh and their children from Phu Xuan Village, Tuyen Hoa Commune.

The couple and their children
Thang and Oanh both have mental problems. They have four small children, including one who is Oanh’s stepchild. The eldest child is now in Grade 2.
The six-member family lived in a camped 30-square-metre house. The house was made from pieces of wood and could collapse at any time.
Their relatives were very poor too so no one could help them.
After the newspaper’s call for support family, many donors and the local authorities assisted the family in building a new VND110 million (USD4,681) house.

The new house of the family
The construction of the 60-square metre house was finished after nearly three months.
On behalf of the family, Dinh Hong Than, Thang’s father, expressed his great thanks for the support.
Dinh Thi Ngoc Lan, deputy director of Quang Binh’s Department of Labour, Invalids and Social Affairs, also visited the family and gave gifts to the children.
