Two wild elephants have been spotted by trail cameras at Vu Quang National Park in the central province of Ha Tinh.
Director of the park, Hoang Danh Ky confirmed with local media on March 3 that camera traps recently captured pictures of two elephants. The adult elephants included a male and a female. They are living in an islet of 400 hectares on Ngan Truoi Lake.
"The two elephants were last sighted here in 2019," Ky said. "The islet has plenty of food for them so they didn't move to other places."
The Vu Quang National Park has placed 25 trail cameras to monitor the lives of the animals.
The park is home to 96 endangered animal species, with 41 of these listed in the World Conservation Union's Red book. There are also 237 species of bird, 38 species of reptiles, 20 species of amphibians, and 60 species of fish. Two of the amphibians are also listed in the red book.
Flora in Vu Quang is also abundant with 307 species of plants and trees. Precious trees include baria kingwood (baria delbergia), iron wood, peltophore and sandalwood.
