Hanoi traffic police have recently set up mobile patrol teams to check blood alcohol levels among drivers.

Food stalls on Hanoi’s streets such as Phung Hung, Tran Phu and Chua Lang have seen a sharp decline in customers, which is in sharp contrast to previously when they were quite crowded in the evening.

A barbecue restaurant on Phung Hung Street in Hoan Kiem District attracted just a few customers from 5 pm to 9 pm on February 26.


The same situation was reported at beer and barbecue restaurants in Nguyen Van Tuyet, Lang and Nguyen Van Huyen streets.

The manager of a restaurant in Chua Lang Street in Dong Da District said that the customer number has dropped by 80 percent. At peak time, the restaurant still sees many vacant seats.

A man in Hanoi said that he and his friends often book Grab rides when they come to restaurants. So now they prioritise places near their homes.

A beer stall on Lang Street has a big TV to lure customers.

Many empty seats were left at a restaurant on Tran Thai Tong Street in Cau Giay District.
