In its report released on February 8, CAAV predicted that the local aviation sector would transport about 80 million passengers and 1.44 million tonnes of cargo, an on-year increase of 45.40 percent and 15 percent, respectively. Compared to 2019 before the Covid-19 pandemic occurred, the increase will be one percent up on passengers and 14.80 percent up on freight.
CAAV said that Vietnam saw robust growth in domestic aviation transportation last year and would expect to serve 45.50 million passengers this year, up five percent compared to 2022 and 22 percent against 2019's figures.
International passenger transportation is expected to reach 34 million by the end of 2023, triple against 2022 and equivalent to 83 percent of 2019's figure.
Despite positive recovery signs, CAAV mentioned some challenges facing the sector, including those in aviation infrastructure, fuel prices, shortages of human resources, and the Russia-Ukraine conflict. The Covid-19 pandemic and economic difficulties in many countries will also affect people's travelling activities.
In its recent report, the International Air Transport Association forecasted a recovery of 80 percent and 95 percent in the number of international passengers and domestic passengers, respectively compared to 2019 before Covid-19 broke out. The association, however, predicted that different regions would have different recovery speeds, with the Asia-Pacific region showing the slowest recovery. Revenue from passenger transport activities is projected to rise, and the industry would be profitable again.
