Do Tat Binh, deputy director of the Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), said part of engineers and workers have been arranged for the airport’s construction site.

ACV previously instructed the project’s contractors to prepare their Tet working plans, prioritising the construction of runways, taxiways and aircraft stands which are scheduled to be completed in the first quarter of this year.

The soil levelling for the drainage system is being carried out, ensuring the work should be on schedule.

Nguyen Hong Quang, a representative from the Long Thanh International Airport’s management board, said that on January 20-26, roughly more than 1,000 engineers and workers along 740 machines and equipment will be mobilised for the project. These figures account for some 40 percent of the usual daily workforce.

A worker from Ha Tinh Province said that he would enjoy Tet with his family for two days and then return to the construction site on the second day of the Lunar New Year.

Long Thanh International Airport is slated to become operational by 2025 with a total capacity of 100 million passengers and five million tonnes of cargo.

The project is slated to cost around VND336.63 trillion (USD16 billion).
