Since early December, the institute has received the donation of around 50,000 units of blood, raising its total to 62,000 units.

The blood donation at The National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion
According to Associate Prof. Nguyen Ha Thanh, head of the institute, the blood would be enough to serve 200 hospitals in the northern region during Tet.
The institute has built a blood supply bank for hospitals, including those in remote areas like Lai Chau, Son La and Ha Giang. On January 18 alone, the institute granted 3,700 blood units to hospitals.
The hospital will serve blood donors through Tet from 7.30 am to 7 pm every day.
At this time last year, the National Institute of Haematology and Blood Transfusion faced a serious blood stockpile shortfall. This was blamed on the drop in blood donations due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Demand for blood often increases on Tet holiday when traffic accidents rise.
