The Mau Son Mountain in the northern province of Lang Son has been covered in frost since Monday morning as a new strong cold spell hit the region.

A strong cold snap has covered the northern region since Monday morning, causing temperatures to fall sharply by 10 degrees Celsius.

According to the director of the Lang Son Provincial Centre for Hydro-meteorological Forecasting, Ha Van Tien, the temperature fell to zero degree Celsius on the morning of January 16 in Mau Son Mountain which is 1,500 metres above the sea level.
"The cold spell is forecasted to last several more days and frosts will continue," he said.
Hanoi is predicted to be cold and have scattered rainfall this week.
The central region has also been affected by the cold snap.
