The losses were over three times higher than that recorded in 2021, the ministry said. The disasters also left 175 people dead and missing.

Torrential rains in some northern provinces of Son La, Hoa Binh, and Tuyen Quang caused flash floods and landslides from April to June. The central region was hit by three consecutive storms with the Noru left large damages in Thanh Hoa, Quang Nam, and Quang Ngai provinces. Meanwhile, the central province of Kon Tum saw continuous earthquakes.

Speaking at the meeting, Vice Director of the National Meteorological and Hydrological Administration, Hoang Duc Cuong, said that Vietnam is forecasted to see fewer storms and tropical depressions in 2023 but powerful storms and heavy rains may still hit the country.
