Pham Thi Minh and her husband in Doan Hung District’s Phu Lam Commune, took in their two grandchildren, one aged three and the other 20 months after their son Nguyen Huu Quang and daughter-in-law Lo Thi Huong died in a traffic accident in September.
Minh said that Quang and Huong used to work for a local wood workshop with a monthly modest income.
On September 3, after receiving his salary, Quang took his wife to a local shop to buy some clothes for their children. While travelling there, their motorbike was hit by a truck. Local authorities helped the family to organise their funeral.
Every night, the couple’s second child cries due to the lack of breastmilk.
Phan Trong Tu, vice chairman of Phu Lam Commune, said that Minh’s family is very poor. Local authorities have called for support for the family.
